MATH COUNTS – MATH COUNTS is sponsored at APG by Mr. Snyder and meets in Room 205. MATH COUNTS is a national math enrichment, coaching, and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement in every state. Schools select students to compete individually or as part of a team in one of the more than 500 written and oral competitions held nationwide. Top students advance to the state, & ultimately, national level. MATH COUNTS challenges students' math skills, develops their self-confidence and rewards them for their achievements. Peace Patrol – The Peace Patrol meets every other Thursday at lunch in Room 124 and is composed of students and faculty discussing earth and peace related issues. The club recently put together the Earth Peace Treaty Commitment and pledged to do more to improve the environment and earth by using stairs, reducing use of appliances, using the library instead of buying books, and turning off computers when not in use… just to name a few. World Friendship Club – The World Friendship Club is sponsored by Ms. Bjornson and meets in Room 209. The purpose of the World Friendship Club is to foster idealism and a sense of social responsibility, to provide opportunities for doing good in the world, and to encourage peace and friendship. Club activities have included: sending emergency supplies and cards in response to disasters; donations of food, clothing, stuffed animals, and money to victims of Hurricane Katrina; handmade cards of condolence to the parents of the children killed in Baslan, Russia; and ongoing projects to help the homeless in San Francisco. |
